Question
Fear is, as a rule, rooted in uncertainty of preferred or desired outcome, isnt it? Then why do we fear death?
Answer
We dont fear the Unknown, we fear not knowing how to win the game of Life. br Im not afraid Neptune has more moons than previously thought, brIm afraid Obama might screw up the economy so bad my kids will starve. brbrAsk the average person if they fear dying old, wealthy amp surrounded by their children, grandchildren, etc..... most would say no. I think the average person would see that as a pretty good life.brbrWhat we typically fear is dying before our time. Its sad to see Grandpa go, but what really kills us is the death of a vibrant child, or a young couple about to wed.brbrStill theres bound to be some rage at the dying of the light. What are we if not the unrelenting commitment to answer the brutal question of who gets the meal, and who becomes it, with a burp amp a nap.brbrI like to think I will fearlessly stroll from my fantastically long life to my much mourned death with grace, gratitude amp acceptance.... but I reserve the right to go kicking amp screaming, blathering of being a hapless tool of DNA or the much abused plaything of a deeply sadistic God.brbrI suspect the fear of ones eventual death is not so much a question of when fear is appropriate, rather than the simple desire to leave the stage with a bang.
